The Anatolian Antique Dealers Association will hold "Antique Item Days" in Ankara on Oct. 10-11 at Kuzu Effect AVM (shopping mall), organizers announced.
Surkru Sari, Head of the Anatolian Antique Dealers Association, said that the association has organized the Ayranci Antique Market for 22 years, noting that the market, previously held on the first Sunday of each month, was expanded to twice a month, on the first and last Sundays, due to strong demand.
Noting that there is intense interest in antique markets in Ankara, with around 5,000 people visiting the Ayrancı Antique Market each day, Sari said, "Due to the strong demand we received, we decided to organize a longer event in a larger venue.''
"At the 'Antique Item Days' we will hold at Kuzu Effect AVM on Oct. 10-11, we will bring together interested buyers with select items not normally brought to antique markets, including hand-woven historical carpets, rare gramophones, medals and Ottoman-era copper items. We look forward to welcoming antique enthusiasts to our event," he added.
Researcher-writer and antique dealer Necati Dogan said Antique Item Days contributes to spreading antique culture and collecting.
Noting that interest in antiques and old objects is growing by the day, Dogan said, "Antiques build a bridge from the past to the future. Antique markets give young people the chance to see many items they wouldn't otherwise encounter in daily life.''
''Young people are showing interest in coins, medals, badges and black-and-white photographs. Young people's interest in antiques and old objects is pleasing," he stated.
Hasan Isik, a vendor at the Ayrancı Antique Market, said he has bought and sold antiques and old items for 15 years, noting there is strong demand for old items.
Isik said that antiques are a hobby for some and a curiosity for others and noted that young people's interest in antiques is also increasing.
Another market vendor, Gozde Ozcoban Yildirim, said that as an academic, she started out collecting silver objects and over time moved into buying and selling silver and silver-plated items, adding that demand and interest in antique items is always strong.
