Antalya will host the 31st Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, a major international event expected to contribute to tourism diversification and extend the city’s tourism season.

The conference will be held from Nov. 9 to 20 at the Antalya EXPO Fair Area, bringing together representatives from 196 countries, including heads of state, senior government officials, scientists and policymakers. Climate change, greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, sustainability and global environmental policies will be among the key topics discussed.

Tourism season expected to extend

Antalya, which welcomed 17.12 million foreign tourists last year, setting a new record, continues to strengthen its role as a destination for major international events. Tourism sector representatives emphasize that hosting COP31 in November, traditionally a low season, will help extend the tourism calendar and support year-round economic activity through congress tourism.

In addition to COP31, the city is also set to host the fifth Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF 2026) and the 77th International Astronautical Congress, reinforcing its position as an international hub for diplomacy, science and large-scale conferences.

Industry representatives highlight strategic importance

Chairman of the Akdeniz Touristic Hoteliers and Operators Association (AKTOB) Kaan Kasif Kavaloglu described COP31 as one of the world’s largest global gatherings and stressed its strategic importance for Türkiye’s international standing. He noted that the successful bid to host the conference was achieved through extensive efforts and strong institutional support.

Kavaloglu also underlined that the conference will attract high-level participation, including heads of state, and will contribute to the more effective use of the Antalya EXPO area. He emphasized that while COP31 will extend the tourism season in the short term, its long-term value will come from follow-up meetings and future international events.
