An International Runfire Salt Lake Ultra Trail Marathon is set to draw 750 athletes to the unique scenery of Salt Lake in Aksaray's Eskil district from Aug. 21-23.
Eskil Mayor Mustafa Zavlak stated that athletes coming from various parts of the world to compete in the race will run on a white salt surface.
Zavlak said the municipality is pleased to be organizing such a large event for the second time. He described Salt Lake as one of Türkiye's most beautiful natural areas and said the municipality is inviting all guests who want to experience its nature, its whiteness, its sunrises and sunsets, and its endless sky.
"We place great importance on this organization as a way to promote Eskil, Salt Lake and Aksaray. Our goal is to carry Eskil's name beyond our borders," he said.
Zavlak added that they are expecting 750 athletes from 10 countries and that the municipality will also host 1,500 guests in camping tents set up at Salt Lake.
"We will carry out this organization in the best possible way in cooperation with the Aksaray Governor's Office and our municipality. By hosting our guests in the best possible manner, we will promote Eskil, Salt Lake and Aksaray excellently," he said.
Zavlak said that they have planned all preparations and infrastructure work to ensure the race goes smoothly, adding that athletes and visitors will have a unique experience.
"As a municipality, we are preparing a comprehensive area that includes water tanks, generators, shaded areas, restrooms and food stands," he said.
Zavlak noted that shortcomings identified during last year's inaugural race have been addressed and that this year's event is planned to take on a festival atmosphere. "All our guests will leave here satisfied. Salt Lake is quickly becoming a tourism center. We are hosting thousands of guests from within Türkiye and abroad," he said.
He added that alongside the marathon, the three-day event will include ATV and horseback safari tours, volleyball tournaments and various shows.
