Istanbul is expected to cool down sharply at the start of next week, with temperatures forecast to fall by 6 degrees Celsius on Monday as thunderstorms move into the city, according to the latest forecasts from the Turkish State Meteorological Service.
The city is still set to see summer-like conditions on Saturday, with temperatures reaching around 30 degrees Celsius, but the warmer spell is expected to give way to cooler and wetter weather from Sunday onward.
Much of Türkiye is expected to experience warm weather on Saturday, with temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius in Ankara, 33 degrees in Izmir, 34 degrees in Antalya and 35 degrees in Adana.
While sunshine is expected across the Black Sea region, southeastern Türkiye will continue to face particularly hot conditions.
The weather pattern is forecast to begin changing on Sunday, when thunderstorms are expected to move into Thrace, the European part of northwestern Türkiye, affecting Edirne, Kirklareli and Tekirdag. Rain is also expected to spread into Istanbul and Kocaeli on the same day.
Temperatures in Istanbul are not expected to change significantly on Sunday, but a more noticeable shift is forecast for Monday.
The Turkish State Meteorological Service expects thunderstorms to move across the city as temperatures fall from around 30 degrees Celsius to 24 degrees, marking a 6-degree drop.
The change would bring in the first significant cooling of September after temperatures remained relatively stable through the opening part of the month.
The unsettled weather is expected to broaden out during the week. By Wednesday, rainfall is forecast across most of Türkiye, with Thrace, the Aegean coast and parts of eastern and southeastern Türkiye remaining outside the main rain zone.
Temperatures across the country are also expected to fall noticeably from Wednesday onward.
