Arriving in spring, beekeepers complete the necessary permits and paperwork before moving their hives to suitable pastures on the slopes of the Munzur, Mercan, Meydan, Hel and Bagirpasa mountains.

Living mostly in tents, they check at regular intervals for the presence of the queen, the strength of the colony and the general condition of the bees, working to increase honey production.

After tending the hives through the summer, beekeepers are now in the middle of the demanding harvest period.

Spending long days at the site, they put on protective clothing and remove the honey-filled combs from the hives one by one, carrying them to the tent by wheelbarrow.

There, they scrape the wax capping from the combs before passing them through a machine that extracts the honey and filters out any impurities.

After being left to settle for a time, the honey is packaged and sold as geographically indicated “Munzur Honey” in strained, comb or traditional black-hive form.
