Ali Sabanci and Vuslat Dogan Sabanci, one of Türkiye's most prominent couples from the world of business and society, have decided to end their 29-year marriage. However, their divorce has yet to be finalized due to a heated dispute over financial compensation.
According to information obtained by Sabah, Vuslat Dogan Sabanci is seeking ₺5 billion ($120.84 million) as part of the divorce settlement. This amount represents about one-eighth of Ali Sabanci’s fortune, which is estimated at $960 million, placing him among the wealthiest individuals in Türkiye.
The couple’s relationship reportedly deteriorated following a serious boating accident in August 2023 near the Greek island of Leros. Both sustained injuries, and Vuslat Dogan Sabanci required multiple surgeries in the United States. Individuals close to the family state that she holds her husband responsible for the incident, which has significantly influenced the divorce negotiations.
Although the couple has been living separately since the accident and are no longer together in practice, their marriage remains legally intact. The unresolved compensation issue has delayed the formal conclusion of the divorce.
