Firefighting crews are battling a forest fire that broke out near Eymir Lake in Ankara, with authorities deploying ground teams and aircraft to contain the blaze.
The fire erupted in the forested area surrounding Eymir Lake during morning hours on Saturday for reasons that remain unknown, according to information obtained by local authorities. Citizens reported the incident, prompting the dispatch of numerous police and fire department teams to the scene.
Security measures have been implemented in the area as crews continue their efforts to extinguish the flames. Helicopters and aircraft have joined the firefighting operation, providing aerial support to ground teams.
Ankara Governor Vasip Sahin told reporters that authorities are responding to the fire with all available resources. He confirmed issuing orders to evacuate the area, noting the location's popularity among residents.
"The area is a heavily used place where citizens engage in sports and walking activities. God willing, we will overcome this," Sahin said in his statement.
The General Directorate of Forestry also issued a statement regarding the ongoing emergency response: "Our intervention from air and land continues for the fire ongoing around Eymir Lake in Ankara. We are fighting to bring the flames under control."
The fire poses particular concern given Eymir Lake's status as a recreational area frequently visited by Ankara residents for outdoor activities. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the blaze as firefighting operations continue.
