Google has unveiled the global and local search trends that defined 2025, highlighting the topics that captured public attention throughout the year. In Türkiye, technology, sports and popular culture dominated online searches.
According to the report, Gemini emerged as the most-searched term of the year, signaling a heightened public interest in artificial intelligence and technology. Following closely, the Istanbul Earthquake ranked second, reflecting the impact of natural events on public consciousness and information-seeking behavior.
Entertainment also played a significant role in online searches. The domestic television series Esref Ruya secured third place, while sports-related queries such as Türkiye vs. Spain matches and international shows like Squid Game were among the top searches.
In the “People” category, footballer Osimhen topped the list, illustrating the enduring popularity of sports figures in Türkiye’s online search patterns. Other notable entries included television host Fatih Urek, sports executive Sadettin Saran and recognized footballers Leroy Sane and Talisca.
Television series were prominently featured in the trends, with Esref Ruya, Squid Game, Gassal, Uzak Sehir and Kral Kaybederse dominating searches. The film category was led by Minecraft, followed by Kadıkoy Bogasi, Uykucu, F1 and Aydede, reflecting both local and global entertainment interests.
In addition, lifestyle-related searches showed sustained engagement. Top food-related queries included Spoonful Recipe, 100-Person Lentil Soup, Lokanta-Style Beyti, Mevlana Soup, and Stuffed Onions.
Fashion searches focused on seasonal and event-specific guidance, including “What to wear with green pants?” and “What to wear to a palace wedding?”
The report also highlighted regional curiosities in the “What’s Famous?” category, with cities such as Bolu, Agri, Merzifon and Mardin attracting high search volumes. Searches related to unusual foods, such as “How to eat Kiwano?”, indicate an ongoing interest in exotic culinary experiences.
