Chobani founder Hamdi Ulukaya has reportedly offered $30 million for the historic Yagci Haci Sefik Bey Yalisi on Istanbul's Bosphorus, well below the property's current asking price of $55 million.
The waterfront mansion, known in Turkish as a "yali," a traditional residence built along the shores of the Bosphorus, is located in Istanbul's Kanlica district.
According to a report by Sabah columnist Bulent Cankurt, Ulukaya toured the property, received information about the mansion, and later put forward the $30 million offer.
The mansion was home to businessman Faruk Yalcin until his death in 2008 and was later put up for sale by his heirs.
The family initially sought $70 million for the property, but the asking price was reportedly brought down to $55 million after no buyer came forward at the original figure.
Ulukaya's reported $30 million bid leaves a $25 million gap between his offer and the family's latest asking price.
Ulukaya, who lives in the United States and founded the yogurt company Chobani, has reportedly started looking for a home in Istanbul as he plans to spend more time in the city.
The report said this search led him to the Yagci Haci Sefik Bey Yalisi, although no agreement on the sale has been reported.
