Boutique auction house Fair Warning held a sale in New York that capitalized on the buzz surrounding New York Fashion Week, selling all 23 historic haute couture pieces on offer. The pieces brought in a combined $3.2 million.

The sale's top piece was the Armadillo ensemble by Alexander McQueen, from the designer's final collection, Spring/Summer 2010. The corset-style top, paired with a skirt and heels, came from model Naomi Campbell's personal collection.

Auctioneer Jussi Pylkkänen sold the piece, which carried a pre-sale estimate of $600,000 to $1 million, for $1.3 million. Pylkkanen said the piece would "end up at the Met one day."

Pylkkanen described McQueen as "the genius of British fashion." Four pieces at the auction came from McQueen, and each sold above the low end of its estimated price.

Rihanna, Madonna dresses also sell high

Two pieces connected to celebrities also drew high prices.

A midnight-blue Azzedine Alaia evening gown with diamond-shaped layered panels, worn by Rihanna, sold for $140,000, below its $150,000 estimate

A 1995 John Galliano dress embroidered with teardrop-shaped sequins sold for $110,000, above its $100,000 low estimate.

Madonna wore the dress in the music video for her 1994 song "Take a Bow," and Kylie Jenner wore it more recently at the 2025 BAFTA Awards in London.
