Motorcycles now outnumber passenger cars in seven provinces across Türkiye, according to August vehicle registration data, with the gap particularly pronounced in Kilis, where nearly three motorcycles are registered for every car.
Data compiled from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), Türkiye's official statistics agency, showed that the country had 7.61 million registered motorcycles as of August, compared with over 18 million passenger cars nationwide.
The seven provinces where motorcycles have moved ahead of cars are Aydin, Kilis, Manisa, Mugla, Igdir, Sanliurfa and Sirnak.
Kilis recorded the most striking difference in proportional terms, with 42,081 motorcycles compared with 14,507 passenger cars.
Manisa, meanwhile, posted the largest numerical gap between the two vehicle types. The province had 351,713 registered motorcycles and 285,696 cars, leaving motorcycles ahead by 66,017.
Mugla followed with 325,559 motorcycles against 294,321 cars, while Aydin had 266,141 motorcycles compared with 248,830 cars.
In Sanliurfa, registrations stood at 127,205 motorcycles and 120,768 cars, while Igdir had 14,694 motorcycles compared with 8,569 cars. Sirnak recorded the narrowest difference, with 9,665 motorcycles and 9,530 cars.
Although motorcycles do not outnumber cars in Istanbul, the country's largest city had the highest overall number of registered motorcycles, at 971,480.
Antalya followed with 563,170 motorcycles, while Izmir ranked third with 549,833.
At the other end of the scale, Ardahan had the fewest registered motorcycles, with 1,455, followed by Tunceli with 2,113, Hakkari with 2,348 and Bingol with 2,602.
