Coffee with olive oil is not a combination most drinkers would think to order, but at a festival in Balikesir, it has become the talk of the crowd.
The drink made its debut at the third Festolive Edremit Olive Oil Tasting Festival in the Edremit district of Balikesir province, where visitors lined up to sample coffee blended with oil from this year’s olive harvest.
Murat Kucukcakir, an agricultural engineer, said the pairing creates a different taste experience from the milky or chocolate-flavored coffees more familiar to most drinkers. He said the drink is made with oil from the current harvest.
Kucukcakir said the drink soothes the stomach and leaves a pleasant taste in the mouth. He invited all festival-goers to try it and pointed to the strong interest the product drew at the event.
Visitors who tried the drink said they could taste and smell the coffee in it. Another said it looked unusual at first, but he found it quite good once he tried it.
The festival celebrates the harvest and gives producers a stage to introduce products to the public.
