The preliminary autopsy report into the death of Turkish actress Ece Irtem has listed a heart attack as the initial cause of death, while authorities continue to look into claims linked to a possible monkey attack during a recent Thailand trip, sepsis and wound marks found on her arms.
Irtem, 35, who was known for playing Isil in the Turkish TV series "One Love," died on June 15, leaving Türkiye's entertainment industry in mourning. According to a report by Neslihan Keskin in Milliyet, the Forensic Medicine Institute completed its preliminary assessment, but officials stressed that the finding does not represent the final conclusion.
The early report said Irtem died of a heart attack based on the first medical findings. However, the investigation has not been closed, as further forensic and laboratory examinations are still underway.
Authorities said the exact cause of death will only become official after the final forensic report is completed.
Alongside the heart attack finding, investigators are also reviewing a claim submitted to the case file by Irtem's lawyer, Ugur Gokkoyun.
The petition reportedly pointed to the possibility that Irtem may have been attacked by a monkey during a trip to Thailand shortly before her death. Judicial authorities are examining the claim as part of the wider investigation.
The same line of inquiry has also brought up the possibility of sepsis, a serious condition often described as blood poisoning, which can occur when the body has an extreme response to infection.
Forensic officials are examining wound marks found on Irtem's arms to determine whether they had any direct connection to her death. The final result will depend on detailed medical tests and the completion of the full autopsy process.
Officials underlined that the current report reflects only the first findings. Irtem's confirmed cause of death will be established after all forensic procedures, laboratory analyses and related examinations are completed.
