What began as a promising sunny weekend quickly turned unsettled across Istanbul, as sudden rainfall disrupted outdoor plans and prompted renewed weather warnings from authorities.

With forecasts shifting rapidly, both city and national agencies have urged residents to remain alert for intermittent and locally heavy showers.

The Disaster Coordination Center of Istanbul Municipality (AKOM) issued a statement warning that rain would continue in intervals across Istanbul, particularly during morning and evening hours and advised the public to take precautions against potential disruptions.

The Turkish State Meteorological Service expanded the alert to 32 provinces, including Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, forecasting thunderstorms and periodic heavy rainfall across large parts of the country through the weekend.

Rain returns to Istanbul

According to official projections, Istanbul will experience unstable conditions over the weekend. Saturday is expected to see intermittent rain, while Sunday will remain partly to mostly cloudy with localized showers.

Temperatures are forecast to remain mild, hovering between 23°C (73°F) and 25°C (77°F).

Meteorological assessments indicate that a weather system will affect much of Türkiye, bringing scattered thunderstorms and heavy rainfall to a wide region. Authorities say the system is expected to persist intermittently into the early days of next week.
