Eskitoglu Waterfall, which sits about 500 meters from the sea in the Derepazari district of Rize, draws visitors with its natural setting and easy access. The waterfall lies within the boundaries of Burucek village and drops from a height of about 40 meters in two tiers. Its proximity to the Black Sea Coastal Road makes it a regular stop for domestic and foreign visitors to the region. Rize is a province on Türkiye’s Black Sea coast known for tea production and green highlands.
In the area, the vicinity of the waterfall can be reached by car, and rest areas in the valley and tourist facilities also offer visitors a range of amenities.
Provincial Culture and Tourism Director Alper Avluk stated that the waterfall’s easy access and social amenities are important.
Saying they place importance on the region in terms of tourism, Avluk said there is a village above the waterfall and a social facility next to it.
“When our people go with their families or on their own, there is an environment where they can meet all their needs, both emotionally and in terms of other social needs,” he said.
Noting that there are many waterfalls in different districts of Rize, Avluk listed Mencuna, Pokut, Palovit, Eskitoglu Waterfall, the waterfalls in Ikizdere, and even dozens of waterfalls that have not yet been named.
“In this sense, our guests from home and abroad can visit a waterfall whichever district they go to,” he said. “Our region has now become a tourism city. In our Rize, tea and, after tea, tourism are now being talked about.”
Avluk said all of the region’s values need to be marketed, including its waterfalls, highlands, gastronomy, sea, autumn, winter and rain.
“At this point, Rize is truly taking very serious steps in recent years. National and international organizations are being held. Participation in fairs at home and abroad is being ensured,” he said.
Pointing out that the experience visitors will have in the city is also important, Avluk said they are working for Rize with joint efforts as the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism and as the entire tourism sector of Rize.
“Every guest who comes is valuable. We must not lose touch with our values either. We are doing everything we can for the development of tourism, and we will continue to do so,” he said.
