Sailing races got underway this week at the 2026 ILCA Europa Cup in Bodrum, drawing 150 athletes from 12 countries to compete in the district's waters.
The event is organized with support from local and national authorities, the Turkish Sailing Federation, EurILCA and sponsor companies, and is hosted by Bodrum Municipality's Bodrumspor Sailing Branch.
Competition officially opened on Sept. 23 with registration procedures and a trial race, before athletes took to the water for their first official races the following day.
Sailors competing in the ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 classes each completed two races per category in Bodrum's blue waters, with further rounds planned depending on weather and sea conditions.
Athletes are competing for podium finishes across the different age and class categories, with the schedule adjusted according to wind and sea conditions throughout the week.
The Europa Cup also serves as a key preparatory event ahead of the ILCA Under-21 European Championship, set to take place in Bodrum from Oct. 9-16, bringing sailors from across the continent to the district ahead of that larger competition.
Results from the event will feed into the ranking system used to determine which athletes will represent Türkiye in the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 classes at the 2027 World Sailing World Championship.
The 2026 ILCA Europa Cup Türkiye is scheduled to conclude on Sept. 27 following the final round of races.
