Located just 10 kilometers (6.21 miles) from the city center, Poyrazlar Lake Nature Park in Sakarya has become one of the region's most popular destinations for those seeking to spend time surrounded by nature, drawing 260,000 visitors last year alone.
The park offers a wide range of activities for visitors, including picnic and camping areas, walking and cycling trails, a horseback riding farm, ATV tours, an amusement park, a sightseeing train, kayaking and lake cycling.
Toward the end of spring, the lake becomes home to blooming water lilies, adding another seasonal attraction for visitors hoping to observe the park's natural scenery up close.
Sakarya is home to three nature parks, including Poyrazlar Lake, Kuzuluk and Il Forest, along with the internationally significant Acarlar Longozu Wetland.
Visitors frequently arrive from major cities such as Istanbul, Kocaeli, and Ankara, many of them seeking a break from urban stress and a chance to reconnect with nature.
Across the wider Sakarya region, nature parks recorded close to 1 million visitors in 2025, with the Acarlar Longozu Wetland alone drawing approximately 500,000 visitors over the same period.
To enhance the visitor experience, park authorities regularly inspect facilities for cleanliness and accessibility while organizing seasonal events, including tent camping activities and programs focused on biodiversity awareness.
The opening of the North Marmara Motorway has significantly increased foot traffic to the park, with many visitors now arriving from Duzce, Kocaeli, and Istanbul in particular.
Semra Acilan, a visitor from Germany vacationing in the nearby Karasu district, said she visited the park for the first time on a friend's recommendation and joined her children for a kayaking excursion and a train tour around the lake.
Visitor Gozdenur Selcuk described spending entire days at the park with her family, arriving for breakfast in the morning and staying through the evening for barbecues, taking advantage of attractions such as the horseback riding farm and amusement park designed with children in mind.
With its combination of natural scenery, wildlife-watching opportunities and family-friendly activities, Poyrazlar Lake Nature Park continues to attract a steady stream of both local and international visitors throughout the year.
