Istanbul on snow watch next week

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has issued a weather warning for the coming days, announcing that colder and wintry conditions will affect Istanbul.

According to the latest weekly forecast, sleet is expected on Monday, Feb. 2, followed by light snowfall on Tuesday, Feb. 3, as temperatures continue to fall across the city.

Strong winds and heavy rain to affect city

AKOM stated that today, strong southerly winds will be effective throughout Istanbul, occasionally reaching storm intensity.

These winds are expected to be accompanied by intermittent heavy rainfall, particularly in coastal and higher-altitude areas.

Despite the unsettled weather, temperatures are expected to remain relatively mild at around 15 degrees Celsius (51 degrees Fahrenheit).

On Saturday, Jan. 31, the weather is expected to be partly to mostly cloudy with rain anticipated during the evening hours.

Temperatures on Saturday are forecast to range from 5 to 8 degrees Celsius.

On Sunday, Feb. 1, very cloudy conditions and widespread showers are expected, while temperatures will drop further to between 4 and 7 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures drop sharply next week

A significant decrease in temperatures is forecast at the beginning of the new week as colder air masses move into the region.

On Monday, sleet is expected, with minimum and maximum temperatures ranging between 1 and 5 degrees Celsius.

On Tuesday, the weather will be partly cloudy, with light snowfall forecast across parts of the city.

Temperatures are expected to remain low, between 1 and 4 degrees Celsius, increasing the risk of icy conditions, especially during nighttime and early morning hours.

By Wednesday, weather conditions are forecast to improve.

AKOM expects partly to slightly cloudy skies, with the lowest temperature dropping to 0 degrees Celsius and the highest reaching approximately 7 degrees Celsius.
