Snow has fallen in the higher elevations of Van, a province in eastern Türkiye, after two days of intermittent rain in the city.
The downpours that have been falling off and on in Van for the past two days gave way to snowfall at higher elevations, changing the scenery around the city.
After two days of rain in the city center, the peaks of the Artos and Erek Mountains have turned white under the fresh snow.
At Karabet Pass, located at an elevation of 2,985 meters on the Van-Bahcesaray highway, snowfall and blizzard conditions caused transportation disruptions.
Visibility decreased in the area, and drivers struggled to proceed along the snowy stretch of road.
Some heavy-duty vehicles were forced to wait on the side of the road until conditions allowed them to continue.
With the snow depth in the area exceeding 10 centimeters, crews from the 11th Regional Directorate of Highways are on standby to keep the road open to traffic.
Gendarmerie units, the military police force that operates in rural areas of Türkiye, also warned drivers to keep snow chains in their vehicles.
