Summer downpour floods roads across Türkiye's capital Ankara

Heavy rainfall swept through Ankara on Saturday morning, leaving water pooled across several streets and disrupting traffic in parts of the Turkish capital.

The rain, which had continued at intervals since nighttime, picked up during the morning and quickly developed into a thunderstorm, according to Anadolu Agency.

Water buildup slows down traffic

As the downpour intensified, water collected on several roads and avenues across the city. Vehicles struggled to move through some affected areas as drivers encountered sections of standing water.

No injuries, evacuations or major damage were reported in the available information.

Intermittent rain expected to carry on

The temperature in Ankara was measured at 16 degrees Celsius, unusually cool for the summer period.

The thunderstorm is expected to carry on at intervals throughout the day, with changing conditions likely to affect different parts of the capital.
