As part of an organization held by the Ministry of Youth and Sports under the slogan "Our steps toward history, our direction toward the future," thousands of young people from different Turkish provinces came together with nature and history at the Hasankeyf Civilization, History and Culture Camp.
The Hasankeyf Civilization, History and Culture Camp, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, welcomed 6,300 young people last year. The camp, which has a capacity of 220 people and operates 12 months a year, hosted 4,800 young people between January and July this year.
It has most recently welcomed 80 young people from Trabzon and Antalya. The young people visited historic structures in the Hasankeyf district, including the Imam Abdullah Tomb, Zeynel Bey Tomb, Artuklu Bathhouse, Er-Rizk Mosque and Hasankeyf Museum, and had the opportunity to see the canyons and Hasankeyf Castle during boat tours on Ilisu Dam Lake.
In addition to Hasankeyf, the youth toured the Batman city center and the Midyat district of Mardin and also visited the Malabadi Bridge, which is built over the Batman River in the Silvan district of Diyarbakir and is on UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List.
Asli Namal, one of the young people who took part in the camp, said that she came from the Alanya district of Antalya and had a great time at the camp. This was her first time attending a youth camp, she said, adding that she found it wonderful that the Ministry of Youth and Sports organizes free camps like this for young people.
"I really didn't know Batman was such a beautiful place," Namal said. She added that it is a city she will want to show her children someday.
Tuba Demir, who came from Antalya, said she had taken part in many camps and she described the region as a homeland where every corner smells of history and recommended that everyone visit. Seeing the places where civilizations once lived was a wonderful experience, she added.
Busra Oren, who took part in the camp from Trabzon, said she had the opportunity to see Hasankeyf's historic treasures, noting that they spent very enjoyable moments and were warmly hosted.
Provincial Director of Youth and Sports Mehmet Safi Ozperk noted that the Hasankeyf Civilization, History and Culture Camp was put into service for young people in 2025, and that it serves young people 12 months a year.
"This is the first youth camp in the Southeastern Anatolia region," Ozperk said. He noted that young people coming from different regions of Türkiye are captivated by Hasankeyf.
Ozperk explained that the camp gives young people the opportunity to tour the city while also learning about the historic and cultural fabric of Midyat. He added that it allows them to introduce visitors to the Malabadi Bridge, one of the world's few stone arch bridges, and offers boat tours on Ilisu Dam Lake so they can explore the surrounding area by water.
