Heavy rain settled over several districts on the European side of Istanbul, including Esenyurt, Beylikduzu and Avcilar, where residents had a hard time getting around as lightning flickered across the sky and thunder rolled for hours.
Water pooled on many roads, forcing drivers to slow down as their vehicles pushed through the standing water.
In Sisli’s Kinali Keklik Street, a storm drain overflowed and sent water across the roadway.
A resident filmed the scene on a mobile phone and reacted to ISKI teams—Istanbul’s municipal water and sewerage utility—for what they said was a lack of on-site work. Nearby in Sariyer’s Ayazaga neighborhood, another street was flooded, and some vehicles were left stranded.
The storm also swept across the Asian side of Istanbul, where downpours were reported in Uskudar, Kadikoy, Maltepe, Kartal, Ümraniye, Sancaktepe, and Beykoz.
Water accumulated on several streets and avenues, and cars advanced only with difficulty. In Maltepe, flooding on certain roads left both drivers and pedestrians in a bind, and many people tried to stay dry by taking shelter under covered areas.
As the storm intensified, lightning lit up the skyline, and thunder was heard in many districts. Some residents captured the moments on their phones as the weather continued to bear down on the city.
