TikTok has announced it will launch an AI-powered shopping assistant and a new payment feature that lets users buy products directly inside the app.
The company calls the tool "Shopping Assistant." It is described as a chat-based AI assistant designed to help users discover and purchase products.
The assistant is reported to understand conversation context and remember users' preferences and needs.
"Shopping Assistant" provides real-time information on product features, shipping details, size options and stock availability. It also helps users complete their purchases.
Under the new payment feature, users can buy from brands that appear in the "For You" feed with a single tap. "For You" is the app's main video feed, personalized by an algorithm.
With the new features, users will no longer need to leave TikTok to get product information or complete a purchase.
The company has integrated the shopping assistant directly into the app to answer users' product questions and complete the shopping process on the platform.
