Adana hosted a baking event titled “Crescent and Star Flavors” for children with special needs as part of the Oct. 29 Republic Day celebrations, which mark the founding of the Republic of Türkiye in 1923.
The event took place at the Yuregir Gastronomy Kitchen and was organized by the Volunteer Mothers Community and the Adana Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism under the “Development Program Vision 2040.”
A total of 25 children with special needs took their places at the workstations, where chefs guided them as they shaped dough and prepared cookies in the form of a crescent and star, the symbol that appears on the Turkish flag.
The program encourages the participation of individuals with special needs in social life, adding that the participants were happy to carry out one of the program’s first projects on such a meaningful day.
Emre Duru, the provincial director of culture and tourism, said they were pleased to host an event that brings children with special needs together with gastronomy, noting that the children experienced culinary culture and prepared their own products.
Organizers believe that individuals with special needs should take part in every area of life to raise awareness in society.
