Global food guide TasteAtlas has released its latest review of the “100 Best Desserts in the World” placing Turkish desserts at the forefront of international gastronomy. The ranking is based on 97,422 valid ratings collected from TasteAtlas’ extensive database of 2,274 traditional desserts worldwide, reflecting broad global participation and verified consumer feedback.
At the top of the list stands Antakya Kunefesi, a traditional Turkish dessert made with shredded pastry, melted cheese, and syrup, which secured the highest overall rating. The result reinforces Türkiye’s long-standing reputation as a leader in dessert craftsmanship rooted in centuries-old culinary traditions.
In addition to Antakya Kunefesi, several other Turkish desserts feature prominently in the top 100, including (#5) Gaziantep Baklavasi, (#6) Fistikli Sarma and (#21) Dondurma (traditional Turkish ice cream). TasteAtlas highlighted the balance of technique, regional ingredients and cultural heritage as key factors behind the strong performance of Turkish sweets.
Following Turkish desserts, the ranking recognizes globally celebrated classics from Europe and beyond. Italian Pistachio Gelato, English Clotted Cream Ice Cream, French Crepes and other iconic desserts from Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas appear throughout the list.
TasteAtlas emphasized that the rankings are generated through a weighted system designed to prioritize authentic and credible reviews, minimizing bias and promotional influence. According to the platform, the aim is not to declare a single universal standard, but to spotlight traditional desserts that have earned consistent international appreciation.
