Türkiye is battling a surge in wildfires across the country, prompting authorities to intensify public awareness efforts and bolster emergency coordination.

In a social media post, the Directorate of Communications shared a detailed wildfire guide and an infographic in Turkish outlining individual responsibilities and preventative measures. While the state has taken all necessary steps in full coordination among its institutions, the post emphasized that personal awareness and vigilance remain the most powerful tools in preventing wildfires. .

“Every citizen must act with a sense of responsibility. Even the smallest negligence can spark a major disaster,” the statement warned.

Public urged to report fires immediately

The guide urged citizens to avoid starting fires or barbecues in forest areas, refrain from littering with flammable items like glass bottles or cigarette butts, and abstain from stubble burning in agricultural fields. Those who witness violations were encouraged to alert authorities.

If smoke or flames are detected, citizens should immediately call 112 Emergency Line, as “every second counts” in minimizing the impact and saving Türkiye’s forests.

High-risk conditions identified

Specific recommendations listed

The official infographic included the following key precautions:

  • No open flames or barbecues in or near forest areas.
  • No smoking or disposal of lit cigarette butts near dry grass or roadside zones.
  • No stubble burning or burning of agricultural waste.
  • No use of fireworks or sky lanterns in areas close to vegetation.
  • Avoid parking on dry grass and steer clear of activities that could damage power lines.
