Seasonal rains are expected across Türkiye in the this week, with temperatures returning to seasonal norms and localised thunderstorms forecast in various regions.
According to Fevzi Burak Tekin, Weather Forecast Expert at the The Turkish State Meteorological Service under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, the country will experience widespread precipitation throughout the week.
Tekin told Anadolu Agency (AA) that a rain-bearing weather system will affect much of the country starting today. Showers are forecast for western regions, and some areas may experience thunderstorms.
"Rain will be seen in Marmara, Aegean, the inner parts of the Western and Central Black Sea regions, and Central Anatolia on today," Tekin said.
"On Tuesday, rain will shift toward eastern Central Anatolia, the Black Sea region, and the northern and eastern parts of Eastern Anatolia. Wednesday through Friday, precipitation is expected to continue across the northern, interior, and southern parts of Türkiye," he added.
Tekin noted that temperatures, which have recently been above seasonal norms, will decrease to seasonal averages — and in some places, slightly below average — due to the incoming rain.
He also warned that strong southerly winds may affect southeastern Marmara, Inner Aegean, Central Anatolia, Western Mediterranean, and interior parts of the Western Black Sea on today. Citizens are advised to prepare for possible storm conditions.
Due to the low-pressure system, western Türkiye may also experience dust transport, which could lead to muddy rains in some areas.
