The Association of Russian Tour Operators (ATOR) has reported a sharp increase in demand among Russian travelers for high-end holiday packages. In the first seven months of 2024, bookings for premium tours rose by 35% compared to the same period last year.
Across the full year, demand for upscale trips has so far climbed 45% year-on-year.
Türkiye has secured the leading position in this segment, accounting for 48% of all Russian premium tour sales.
The United Arab Emirates came second with 34%, followed by Egypt at 13%, while the Maldives captured just 1%.
Industry experts point to higher disposable incomes among Russian citizens as well as a broader selection of luxury hotel options, especially in Türkiye, as the main reasons behind this trend.
ATOR also highlighted that Russian outbound travel in 2024 rose by 15.4% compared to last year, reaching 17.4 million trips.
Türkiye once again stood out as the most visited destination overall.
Economic factors have played a significant role in the recent surge of Russian tourism to Türkiye. The Russian ruble strengthened against both the dollar and the euro in 2024, significantly increasing Russian travelers’ purchasing power.
This allowed more tourists to book early and choose premium packages, resulting in longer stays at Turkish resorts and increased spending on local services and attractions.
Luxury accommodations in Türkiye have increasingly adapted to the expectations of Russian tourists.
Resorts in Antalya, Bodrum, and other coastal regions now provide services specifically designed to appeal to Russian visitors, including Russian-speaking staff, Russian television channels, cuisine catering to Russian tastes, and premium amenities such as private beaches and personalized excursions.
