Türkiye’s fastest domestically produced electric high-speed train is expected to begin testing in 2026, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said.

Uraloglu said production of the first set has reached 90% physical completion and that the project aims to manufacture 15 train sets between 2026 and 2028, including one prototype.

Train designed for speed, capacity and comfort

According to the minister, the national electric high-speed train will have a top speed of 225 kilometers per hour.

The eight-car train sets, built with aluminum bodies, will have a passenger capacity of 577.

Uraloglu said interior installation and finishing work are nearing completion.

Advanced onboard systems and accessibility features

The train sets will be equipped with systems designed to ensure passenger safety and comfort, including a train control and monitoring system, an automatic train stop system, electromagnetic passenger doors, fully automatic climate control, fire detection, audiovisual passenger information systems and camera systems.

Passengers will also have access to Wi-Fi, vending machines for food and beverages, and a kitchen section.

The trains will include two compartments for passengers with disabilities, along with elevators enabling wheelchair access between platforms and train cars.

Testing phase to begin next year

Uraloglu said testing of the first train set will begin in 2026 once it is placed on the rails.

“Within the scope of the project, we plan to produce 15 sets between 2026 and 2028, including one prototype,” he said, noting that Türkiye currently operates 31 high-speed train sets.

He added that nearly half that number will be domestically produced under the national train project.
