Gaziantep’s Araban garlic and Kastamonu's Taskopru garlic have ranked among the world’s top five garlic varieties on TasteAtlas, bringing more international attention to one of Türkiye’s region-specific agricultural products.

The ranking was announced through remarks by Hasan Altun, head of the Araban Chamber of Agriculture and the Araban Garlic Producers Union, who said the TasteAtlas list featured 17 garlic varieties from several countries. According to him, Araban garlic placed fifth, while varieties from France, Italy, Spain and China also appeared on the list.

Regional product stands out on a global list

The result put Araban garlic alongside some of the world’s best-known garlic varieties and underlined the growing visibility of local produce from Türkiye on international food platforms. TasteAtlas, a platform that shares information on local dishes, beverages and restaurants, included Araban garlic in a list that Altun said brought together products from a range of countries.

Altun also said the ranking carried weight not only for the district of Araban in Gaziantep province, but also for the wider agricultural economy, as the product continues to contribute significantly at both the regional and national levels.

Türkiye appears twice in the top 5

Altun noted that China’s Jinxiang garlic ranked first on the list, followed by Spain’s Ajo Morado de Las Pedroneras in second place.

He added that Türkiye’s Taskopru garlic came third, meaning two garlic varieties from Türkiye made it into the top five.
