Swedish actor Gustaf Skarsgard, best known for his role as Floki in the globally popular series Vikings, has declared his support for the Global Sumud Flotilla, a civilian-led campaign aiming to break the blockade on Gaza.

While some reports suggested that the actor would personally join the flotilla setting sail on Sept. 10, Skarsgard has clarified that his role is limited to raising awareness.

He emphasized that he does not wish to take credit from the activists and civilians risking their safety by participating in the mission directly.

“My participation in the campaign to raise awareness about the Global Sumud Flotilla does not mean I will be setting sail myself.

I do not wish to take any credit from the brave activists and civilians who will sail. I am participating because they have my wholehearted support,” he stated in a social media post.

Campaign highlights humanitarian concerns

The Global Sumud Flotilla seeks to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where restrictions have severely limited access to essential supplies.

Skarsgard underlined that every attempt to challenge the siege deserves “respect, support, and attention,” urging his followers to help spread the word.

In another post, he referred to the human cost of the conflict, recalling a recent commemoration where the names of children killed in Gaza were read aloud.

He described it as “beyond heartbreaking” and a powerful reminder of the immense scale of loss.

Drone strike on mission boat

On September 8, the organizers of the Global Sumud Flotilla announced that one of their main vessels, known as the “Family Boat,” had been struck by a drone in Tunisian waters.

The ship, sailing under the Portuguese flag, was carrying steering committee members when the attack occurred.

According to the press statement, all six passengers and crew were unharmed, although the drone caused fire damage to the main deck and below-deck storage. The organization confirmed that an investigation was underway.

The flotilla’s leadership stressed that “acts of aggression aimed at intimidating and derailing our mission will not deter us.”

They affirmed that the campaign will continue its peaceful mission to deliver humanitarian aid and highlight the ongoing blockade.
