A powerful weather system is set to sweep across Türkiye between Feb. 25 and 26, bringing heavy rain, snow and strong winds, the Turkish State Meteorological Service has warned.
The national forecast indicates precipitation across most regions. Coastal areas are expected to experience rain and showers, while inland and eastern regions are forecast to receive sleet and snow. Locally strong precipitation is anticipated along the western Black Sea coast, the eastern Mediterranean, eastern sections of Central Anatolia and parts of eastern Anatolia.
Southern provinces, including Adana, Osmaniye, Hatay and Kahramanmaras, are expected to receive heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms possible in some coastal districts. Northern provinces along the Black Sea are forecast to experience heavy snowfall, particularly in higher elevations.
Meteorologists reported that strong northerly winds are expected in the western and central Black Sea region, reaching speeds of 50 to 70 kilometers per hour. Storm conditions at sea are anticipated, with wave heights projected to reach up to 3.5 meters in parts of the central Black Sea.
Air temperatures across western and inland regions are expected to decline by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius. Frost and icy conditions are likely during nighttime and early morning hours in inland and eastern areas, increasing the risk of hazardous travel conditions.
Authorities cautioned about potential flooding, transportation disruptions, icing and avalanche risks in mountainous areas with heavy snow accumulation.
