At least one person was killed and four others wounded late Friday as Israeli airstrikes hit multiple locations across Syria, defying mounting international and regional calls to halt aggression on Syrian territory.
This marks another in a series of intense airstrikes, with seven attacks and severe explosions reported in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
Syria’s state news agency SANA reported that Israeli warplanes carried out a raid near the village of Shatha in northwest Hama province, injuring four civilians. Another strike on the outskirts of Harasta, in the Damascus countryside, killed one person.
Israeli aircraft also targeted other locations, including Hama, Latakia, and Quneitra, continuing a pattern of escalating strikes across the country.
The Israeli army made a statement regarding the attacks in Syria. The statement claimed that a military area, anti-aircraft guns and missile infrastructure were targeted. Israel threatened to continue its strikes “if necessary”.
Additional airstrikes were reported near the towns of Muthabin and Izraa in Daraa province in the south. These attacks followed earlier Israeli strikes near the presidential palace in Damascus, signaling a sharp escalation.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army issued a statement regarding the attacks in Syria, claiming that a military area, anti-aircraft guns, and missile infrastructure were targeted. Israel also threatened to continue its strikes “if necessary."
Israel has occupied Syria’s demilitarized buffer zone since December, following the ouster of the Bashar al-Assad regime that ended the 1974 disengagement agreement without a withdrawal timeline.
Syria’s new administration, led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, has condemned Israel’s actions as violations of the country’s sovereignty and demanded the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
