Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, along with Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, have publicly called on Israel to halt military operations in Gaza that are impacting civilians and to immediately open all crossing points for humanitarian aid.
In a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Tajani said: “Once again, I have asked Israel to stop military operations affecting civilians and to immediately open all crossing points to allow humanitarian aid to enter. We want a ceasefire and the release of hostages: the war in Gaza must end.”
Tajani added that the Italian government continues to closely monitor the situation of civilians affected by the conflict.
He also announced that: “A new group of 52 Palestinians has been evacuated from Gaza to Jordan. These individuals are relatives of Palestinians who were previously brought to Italy for medical treatment. They will arrive in Italy on commercial flights shortly.”
Meanwhile, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto criticized Israeli actions in Gaza in remarks to Corriere della Sera: “What Netanyahu is currently doing in Gaza must stop. In my personal opinion, he is making a mistake. What is happening is unacceptable in terms of the values we claim to uphold.”
Crosetto reaffirmed the Italian government's support for a two-state solution in the region.
On May 19, Tajani held a phone call with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar. After the conversation, he reiterated his calls for a cease-fire and emphasized the need for timely delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
