Authorities in Türkiye have arrested five minors after they were accused of sharing social media posts suggesting planned attacks on schools in the northwestern city of Bursa, while others faced house arrest or were released following questioning.
The developments began after a tip-off prompted police to look into online content claiming that attacks could take place at several schools across Bursa. Acting on the alert, teams from the provincial police department’s juvenile division tracked down and detained 10 suspects, all under the age of 18.
Officials moved quickly to take the group into custody, as the posts were understood to outline potential threats targeting educational institutions. The suspects were then taken in for questioning as part of the investigation.
After completing procedures at the police station, the minors were brought before judicial authorities.
The court ordered the arrest of five suspects, while three others were placed under house arrest. The remaining two were released after giving statements to prosecutors.
The legal measures reflect how authorities in Türkiye handle cases involving minors, where different levels of restriction can be applied depending on the findings and perceived risk.
The incident comes shortly after a deadly school shooting in Kahramanmaras on April 15, which has heightened public concern around school safety.
In that case, a 14-year-old student carried out an armed attack at his middle school, using weapons taken from his father, a senior police official. The attacker opened fire indiscriminately, killing a teacher and eight students, and injuring several others before dying in the incident.
Following the attack, education was suspended across the province for two days as authorities responded to the aftermath.
