Pro-Palestinian activists confronted Klodya Medina, an Israeli-Turkish dual citizen who has been a target of social media criticism in Türkiye, at the Istinyepark shopping mall in Istanbul’s Sariyer district on Sunday, leading to a scuffle, police and medical teams being sent to the scene, and the mall’s evacuation.

Reports said no weapons or knives were used. An investigation into the incident has been launched, and Medina was escorted out of the building by mall staff and security personnel.

How the confrontation unfolded

According to the information reported, a group of roughly 20 to 25 people was involved. A verbal argument between the group and a woman came first, and as it escalated, some people reportedly moved toward her while bystanders also became involved.

Activists affiliated with the Freedom Watch Platform said to have come across Medina while she was shopping at the mall. They unfurled Turkish and Palestinian flags and chanted slogans. In footage that circulated online, the group could be heard shouting “Down with Zionism! I don’t want Zionists in my country!”

Following a call to authorities, police and medical teams were dispatched to the mall. The building was cleared after the tension, and Medina was taken out with security escorts.

Allegations against Medina

Medina has been targeted on social media for some time on the grounds that she brings Israeli tourists to Türkiye and supports Israel.

It is alleged that her children serve in the Israeli army and that she provides services to Israeli soldiers in Istanbul through health tourism.

A pro-Palestine group separately claimed that Medina brought members of the Israeli military to Türkiye under the banner of health tourism and played a role in providing them with medical care and accommodation.

The group filed a criminal complaint with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on Friday, two days before the mall incident.
