A flight operated by Türkiye’s budget airline AJet sparked widespread discussion on social media after passengers reported moments of panic during its descent into Istanbul.
The Cologne–Istanbul (VF-90) flight reportedly encountered a technical malfunction shortly before landing at Sabiha Gokcen Airport, prompting safety warnings inside the cabin.
Footage shared online showed cabin crew instructing passengers to prepare for impact. One traveler, recording the tense moments, was heard asking, “Where are we landing?” According to accounts posted later on social media, passengers were warned multiple times to brace for a potential collision.
One passenger wrote, “They were politely telling us that we were facing death. They kept repeating: ‘Be ready for impact; don’t panic.’ We want to know what kind of technical failure this was.”
In a statement released on social media, AJet’s Press Advisor Mehmet Yesilkaya confirmed that the aircraft experienced a technical issue shortly before its scheduled landing. He said the crew followed all necessary aviation procedures and kept passengers informed throughout the situation.
Yesilkaya added that the aircraft landed safely at Sabiha Gokcen Airport without injuries or further incidents. “Our aircraft completed its flight safely and without any problems. We inform the public with respect,” he said.
Despite the alarming in-flight warnings, the incident concluded without damage or injury. The airline emphasized that passenger safety remained its top priority and that all standard emergency protocols were executed as required.
