Türkiye’s low-cost carrier AJet announced the launch of new direct flights from Ankara to Baghdad as part of its strategy to expand international routes from the Turkish capital.

The flights will commence on Nov. 3, 2025, with tickets starting at $79. According to the airline, the new route aims to strengthen Ankara’s position as an international aviation hub by connecting it with more global capitals.

Baghdad, one of the Middle East’s most historically and politically influential cities, already receives flights from Istanbul, but this will be the first direct connection from Türkiye’s capital city.

3 weekly flights between Ankara and Baghdad

A Jet said it will operate three weekly flights between Ankara and Baghdad. Departures from Ankara will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while return flights from Baghdad to Ankara will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

This addition aligns with the airline’s broader expansion plan for Ankara, which has become a focal point in its international network strategy following earlier launches of routes to Tbilisi, Georgia, and several upcoming European and Middle Eastern destinations.

Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board of Turkish Airlines and AJet, announced the new service via social media, highlighting both historical and cultural ties between Türkiye and Iraq.

"With our deep-rooted historical and cultural bonds, we are launching direct flights from Ankara to Baghdad, one of the ancient capitals of our region, starting November 3," Bolat said, expressing hopes that the new connection would bring mutual benefit.

Aims to make Ankara key hub

Bolat emphasized that AJet’s strategic vision focuses on positioning Ankara as a central hub for international travel, not only serving Türkiye’s administrative center but also promoting nearby provinces with their geographic, historical, and cultural assets.

"Following our recently launched Ankara–Tbilisi flights, and with upcoming routes to Madrid, Barcelona, and Erbil, we will soon connect Ankara to 34 cities worldwide,” Bolat said.

"Together with our partners across tourism, culture, and business, we will continue to establish new air bridges for our capital."

Based in Ankara and Istanbul, AJet is the low-cost subsidiary of Turkish Airlines, serving over 100 domestic and international destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
