Senior figures in Türkiye's ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) have held a series of meetings this week with security officials and Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) representatives. The discussions aimed to advance the implementation of a roadmap and timeline drawn from talks with imprisoned terrorist organization PKK ringleader Abdullah Ocalan.

Significant progress has reportedly been made on the issues of evacuation of Qandil and other PKK camps in northern Iraq, the surrender of weapons, and the transfer of organization members to Türkiye, according to journalist Yucel Kayaoglu's report in Türkiye daily.

Meetings held with security officials, DEM Party

According to the report, AK Party figures actively involved in the process held significant meetings with both the security bureaucracy and DEM Party officials from the start of the week. The sessions focused on evaluating the timeline and roadmap that emerged from talks with Ocalan at Imrali prison.

The security bureaucracy had visited both Imrali and Qandil before the Eid holiday. The final reports prepared after the visits formed the basis on which the AK Party leadership decided to accelerate the Terror-Free Türkiye process, Kayaoglu reported.

Progress was reported on the evacuation of PKK camps in northern Iraq, including Qandil, the handover of weapons, and arrangements for organization members to come to Türkiye.

Across all these tracks, the report states that consensus emerged on several key elements: legislative arrangements to cover the relevant issues, a disarmament process, and the establishment of a mechanism to oversee the social integration of organization members.

As a first step, a temporary and time-limited framework law is to be introduced in parliament before the legislative recess. A follow-up monitoring mechanism will become operational once the law is passed.

'No going back'

Ruling AK Party sources quoted in the report offered a direct assessment of where the process stands, stating, "Right now everything is progressing as we want. We have a roadmap and a timeline and we are acting accordingly. It doesn't matter what the organization says. Those in Qandil are talking, but significant progress has been made in the talks at Imrali."

"We are not acting based on rumors. From this point on, there is no going back. The organization knows this, and Ocalan knows this. From now on, we will be looking at implementation. The completion of the disarmament process is the critical threshold for us. It still is," the sources noted.

"We will see what happens according to the roadmap coming from Imrali and Qandil. Important developments will be happening soon," the sources said.
