Allegations of vote buying at CHP congress as files of 9 MPs separated

An investigation by the Ankara Public Prosecutor's Office is currently underway regarding allegations of vote buying during the Republican People's Party (CHP) 38th Ordinary Congress, held on Nov. 4-5, 2023.

As part of the investigation, the files of 9 MPs, including CHP leader Ozgur Ozel, have been separated. Following the investigation, Ozel announced that another congress will be held.

Ozel had previously been re-elected as the party leader during the CHP’s 21st Extraordinary Congress.

The investigation continues under Article 112 of the Political Parties Law and other relevant legal provisions.

9 MPs' files separated

The Public Prosecutor's Office has separated the files of the following MPs about allegations of providing benefits and engaging in irregularities during the congress: Ozgur Ozel (Manisa), Ensar Aytekin (Balikesir), Ali Mahir Basarir (Mersin), Gokhan Gunaydin (Istanbul), Nurhayat Altaca Kayisoglu (Bursa), Ozgur Karabat (Istanbul), Umut Akdogan (Ankara), Veli Agbaba (Malatya), and Turan Taskin Ozer (Istanbul).


The investigation into these MPs is being conducted under the charge of "violating the Political Parties Law" by the Parliamentary Crimes Investigation Bureau.
