Members of the Ankara Palestine Solidarity Platform gathered outside the U.S. Embassy on Wednesday to protest Israel's continued military operations in Gaza, which they say violate a recently announced ceasefire.
Protesters displayed a banner reading "Global resistance against the global gang" as they assembled in front of the diplomatic mission.
Mustafa Eminoglu, reading a statement on behalf of the platform, said Palestinians in Gaza have endured various forms of suffering over the past two years but have resisted attacks. He claimed Israel has failed to achieve its objectives in the conflict.
Eminoglu referenced a ceasefire announced 15 days ago in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. "However, absolute evil Israel is built on lies," he said. "In its 77-year bloody history, murderous Israel has violated all its promises and all agreements without exception. It was clear from the beginning that it would violate this ceasefire like previously declared ceasefires, because no protective or effective measures were taken for the implementation of the ceasefire."
The activist outlined several measures the group is demanding be taken against Israel, including the immediate revocation of its recognition as a state and the imposition of embargoes on Israeli sea, land and air vehicles to stop what he described as terrorist attacks blocking humanitarian aid.
The platform called for closing airspace and maritime areas to Israel, shutting down Israeli embassies worldwide and severing all relations with the country. "We know and believe that the blood of a baby in Gaza is superior to all the benefits obtained from relations with murderous Israel," Eminoglu said.
He argued that "neither the ornate lies of genocide partner Trump, nor condemnations, nor diplomatic contacts can stop Israel," calling instead for the establishment of a peace force in Gaza comprised of Turkish troops and military forces from regional countries that have taken what he called an honorable stance against the violence.
The group dispersed without incident following the statement.
