Multiple major roads in Türkiye's capital will be closed to vehicle traffic starting Monday at 8 a.m. due to a planned public event, Ankara police announced Sunday.
The closures will affect several key arteries in central Ankara, creating potential traffic disruptions for residents and commuters. According to a statement from Ankara Police Directorate, bidirectional vehicle access will be prohibited on numerous streets and their connecting roads.
The affected areas include Anit Street between Turgut Reis Street and Anadolu Square, portions of Genclik Street from its intersection with Akdeniz Street to Anit Street, and sections of Dogol Street from Besevler Junction to Anadolu Square. GMK Boulevard between its intersection with Strasbourg Street and Anadolu Square will also be closed, along with Kazim Karabekir Street from Istanbul Street to Anadolu Square.
All side streets and avenues connecting to these main thoroughfares will be similarly restricted during the closure period. Additional traffic restrictions will affect connecting routes between major streets.
Vehicle access will be blocked on connector roads linking Celal Bayar Boulevard to Kazim Karabekir Street in both directions, Hipodrom Street to Kazim Karabekir Street bidirectionally, and Istanbul Street to Kazim Karabekir Street in both directions.
The event will also impact public transportation. Starting at 11 a.m. Sunday and continuing until the event concludes, both the Ataturk Cultural Center metro station and the Anadolu Square Ankaray station will be closed to passengers.
Ankara authorities have not specified the nature of the public event prompting the extensive road closures or provided an estimated end time for the restrictions. The closures are expected to affect traffic flow throughout central Ankara, particularly around the government district and cultural venues.
Local residents are advised to plan alternative routes and allow extra travel time during the closure period.
