The Republican People’s Party (CHP), Türkiye’s main opposition, has confirmed its participation in the newly established parliamentary commission aimed at national reconciliation, after receiving assurances that decisions will be made by qualified majority vote.
CHP leader Ozgur Ozel announced on Wednesday that the party will submit the names of its 10 representatives for the 51-member commission, officially titled Terror-Free Türkiye.
Ozel said that Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus had contacted CHP parliamentary group deputy chair Murat Emir to confirm that the commission would adopt qualified majority rule in decision-making — a key condition for CHP’s participation.
The commission was formed following developments suggesting the terrorist organization PKK may begin disarmament steps. While the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) have already submitted their lists, the nationalist opposition Good Party (IYI) announced it would not take part.
Ozel emphasized that the decision to join was made after receiving a formal commitment on the commission's structure and voting procedure.
