Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday welcomed U.S. counterpart Donald Trump’s recent remarks on ending the Israel-Iran conflict, stressing the need for immediate action to prevent a catastrophe that could engulf the entire region.
The two leaders discussed the Israel-Iran conflict, bilateral ties, and regional issues in a phone call, Türkiye's Communications Directorate said in a statement on X..
The Turkish president reiterated that diplomacy is the “only way” to resolve the nuclear dispute and expressed Ankara’s readiness to make every effort, including facilitating negotiations.
Erdogan also said Israel’s attacks on Iran have caused “irreversible economic and civilian damage” on both sides and emphasized the need to halt the dangerous escalation.
Trump, in a post on Truth Social on Sunday, said, “Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal,” adding that many calls and meetings were underway to achieve peace.
Trump and Erdogan also spoke by phone on Saturday, during which Erdogan expressed Türkiye's readiness “to do everything it can to prevent uncontrolled escalation of the tension” between Israel and Iran
The conflict erupted early Friday when Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, killing several senior commanders and scientists. Iran responded with retaliatory missile attacks, and Israeli operations have continued.
Israeli authorities said at least 13 people have been killed and more than 370 injured in Iranian missile attacks since Friday.
Iranian officials reported at least 78 killed on the first day of Israel’s assault, with additional casualties—including children—on the second day of strikes.
