President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at Armenia's request to discuss ongoing peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan on Monday.
According to a statement from the Turkish Presidency's Communication Directorate, the discussion focused on peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan following the countries' recent agreement initialed at the White House.
Erdogan congratulated Pashinyan for the agreement reached with Azerbaijan, stating that the demonstrated peace will be valuable for regional peace and that this step should be transformed into concrete actions.
The Turkish president noted that technical-level talks would continue to develop the normalization process between Türkiye and Armenia and that efforts in this regard would persist.
On Friday, President Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and U.S. President Donald Trump signed a joint declaration at a trilateral summit at the White House.
The agreement aims to end decades of conflict between the Southern Caucasus neighbors, with commitments to cease hostilities, reopen transport routes, and normalize relations.
Armenia and Azerbaijan have fought a series of cross-border wars since the late 1980s, including most recently since 2020, when Azerbaijan liberated its territory of Karabakh.
