President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hosted NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte at the Presidential Complex in Ankara. The meeting, which was closed to the press, was attended by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
The discussions focused on Türkiye's relationship with NATO, the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict, and various regional and global issues.
President Erdogan emphasized Türkiye's strong commitment to NATO, noting that Türkiye would once again assume command of the NATO Kosovo Force (KFOR) as a testament to this commitment.
He also underlined Türkiye's expectation of increased cooperation from its allies in the fight against terrorism. Despite facing both internal and external challenges, Erdogan assured that Türkiye would continue to do its part in strengthening NATO.
Regarding the Ukraine-Russia war, President Erdogan highlighted Türkiye’s efforts to promote a lasting and just peace. He shared details of his conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and reaffirmed Türkiye's strong support for a comprehensive cease-fire. Erdogan also emphasized that NATO should avoid becoming directly involved in the conflict and stressed that the peace opportunity should not be missed.
Fidan and Senior Foreign Policy and Security Advisor Akif Cagatay Kilic accompanied President Erdogan during the meeting.
