Erdogan warns of regional instability due to Israel-Iran escalation

According to a statement from the Türkiye’s Presidential Communications Directorate, President Erdogan stated during the call that "the spiral of violence initiated by Israel’s attacks on Iran is putting the entire region’s security at risk."

He added that "the Netanyahu government’s disregard for international law constitutes a clear threat to the international system” and stressed that “the region cannot withstand another war."

Erdogan emphasized that Türkiye has focused on diplomacy since the beginning of the conflict and noted that "resolving issues with Iran is only possible through diplomatic means," urging all parties to return to negotiations without delay.

He also underscored the importance of not allowing Israel’s military actions against Iran to divert global attention from “the genocide in Gaza," adding that "Israel is highly likely to attempt faits accomplis in the region."

Putin condemns Israeli action and supports diplomatic resolution

A statement from the Kremlin confirmed that "Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned Israel’s use of force against Iran, which was carried out in violation of the U.N. Charter and other norms of international law."

The Kremlin said both leaders expressed "serious concern over the continued escalation of the Iran-Israel conflict, which has already led to numerous casualties and poses long-term risks for the entire region."

The leaders agreed on "an immediate cessation of hostilities and resolution of disputes, including those related to Iran’s nuclear program, through strictly political and diplomatic means."

According to the Kremlin, "relevant institutions in both countries will maintain close coordination" in this context.

Discussion includes Ukraine and energy cooperation

The Kremlin statement added that during the call, "Vladimir Putin expressed gratitude to the Turkish side for its organizational support in facilitating direct Russia-Ukraine negotiations." Russia confirmed it is "strictly implementing the agreements from the second round of talks, including the return of fallen soldiers’ remains and prisoner exchanges."

The two leaders also exchanged views on current bilateral issues, including energy cooperation.

According to the statement from the Kremlin, these matters are expected to be discussed further during the upcoming St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and the next session of the Türkiye-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation at the end of June.

President Erdogan also conveyed congratulations to President Putin and the Russian people on the occasion of Russia Day, marked on June 12.
