President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit the United Arab Emirates and Ethiopia next week, the country’s communications chief said Saturday.
Erdogan is scheduled to meet on Monday, Feb. 16, in Abu Dhabi with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Communications Director Burhanettin Duran said.
The talks are expected to focus on steps to expand cooperation between Türkiye and the UAE, as well as regional and global developments.
On Tuesday, Feb. 17, Erdogan will travel to Addis Ababa at the invitation of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, Duran added.
Several agreements and documents whose negotiations have been completed are expected to be signed during the visits.
The trip follows Erdogan’s visit to Saudi Arabia on Feb. 3 and his subsequent travel to Egypt, during which agreements were signed with both countries in various fields, particularly energy.
Speaking to reporters on his return flight from Egypt, Erdogan said Türkiye and Saudi Arabia will enhance cooperation in the defense industry, citing positive feedback on the domestically produced Turkish stealth fighter jet KAAN.
“We’ve received a lot of positive feedback on KAAN. There is a joint investment with Saudi Arabia in this area, and we can implement this partnership at any moment,” Erdogan said following his visits to Riyadh and Cairo.
During talks in Riyadh with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, delegations signed four agreements and adopted a joint declaration covering multiple sectors.
Erdogan said Saudi Arabia holds a “special position” for Türkiye in defense industry cooperation, transportation, health, investment, and contracting services.
Following the Riyadh visit, Erdogan traveled to Cairo at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for the second meeting of the Türkiye-Egypt High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. The first session was held in Ankara in September 2024.
Eight documents, including a joint declaration, were signed during the Cairo meetings. Business forums involving private sector representatives were also held in both Riyadh and Cairo.
Erdogan said regional developments, particularly in Palestine and Syria, were discussed within a framework of “regional ownership,” emphasizing cooperation among leading states in the region.
