President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday that Türkiye is acting with great caution against plots aimed at dragging the country into war, adding that Ankara is taking necessary measures after a third Iranian missile was intercepted in Turkish airspace.

"Keeping our country away from this fire pit is our top priority," Erdogan said. "Türkiye is taking necessary measures against all threats violating its airspace, as it did last night."

Türkiye cautious against provocations

Erdogan said authorities are carefully assessing developments in the region and examining the broader dynamics behind recent events. "We need to maintain common sense during the process our region is going through," Erdogan said.

He stressed that Ankara is moving cautiously against provocations or schemes that could pull the country into a wider confrontation, while urging the public to remain alert to narratives that could inflame sectarian or ethnic divisions.

The president added that maintaining calm and awareness is essential as tensions continue to escalate across the region.

Third missile intercepted over Türkiye

Türkiye’s Defense Ministry said a ballistic missile launched from Iran and entering Turkish airspace was intercepted overnight Thursday by NATO air and missile defense systems deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The ministry said the threat was neutralized and that authorities are responding decisively to any danger directed at the country’s territory or airspace.

Iran’s embassy in Ankara denied launching any missile toward Türkiye and said Tehran is ready to form a joint technical team with Ankara to clarify the incident.

The incident is the third reported interception of a missile linked to Iran, following earlier cases on Mar. 9 over Gaziantep and Mar. 4 in Hatay’s Dortyol district.
