Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan issued stark warnings about potential regional chaos during diplomatic talks in Moscow with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on Tuesday, one day after meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
The high-level diplomatic engagement underscored Türkiye's active role in mediating multiple regional conflicts while maintaining strategic partnerships with key global powers.
Speaking at a joint press conference following their meeting, Fidan emphasized the urgent need to halt the ongoing violence in Gaza. "The ongoing genocide and humanitarian drama must stop immediately," he said.
"Otherwise, as we always state, no one can prevent the spread of a great chaos that will include Israel. This much blood, tears, and pain cannot remain without consequences."
Fidan warned that continued escalation could engulf the broader region, stressing that "humanity and the international community must make every effort to retake the exam they failed here."
The foreign ministers also addressed their nations' continued cooperation on Syrian affairs, with Fidan reaffirming joint commitments to the country's future.
"Türkiye and Russia will continue to work together to preserve Syria's unity and territorial integrity," he stated.
"Simultaneously, we will continue our efforts to ensure the Syrian people achieve prosperity and stability."
Fidan noted significant developments in Syria over the past five months, particularly in establishing political and economic stability and security, despite what he described as ongoing "disinformation campaigns" against the Syrian government.
The discussions with Lavrov came just one day after Fidan met with Russian President Putin in Moscow on Monday.
According to Turkish diplomatic sources, the earlier meeting lasted approximately one hour and addressed recent initiatives aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war, as well as developments following peace talks held in Istanbul on May 16.
The Putin meeting also covered bilateral issues in the economy and energy sectors, highlighting the multifaceted nature of Türkiye-Russia relations despite broader geopolitical tensions.
Fidan indicated that Türkiye and Russia would maintain their collaborative approach to regional challenges. "We will continue to work together with Russia on this matter," he said, referring to efforts to address the Gaza crisis and broader Middle Eastern stability.
